Terms of Service

Last updated: November 2, 2026

Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms"), which also serve as the End User License Agreement (EULA) for the ShelfClub apps, form a binding agreement between you and Kitsap Software LLC ("ShelfClub", "we", "us") and govern your use of the ShelfClub mobile apps, the website at shelfclub.app, and the underlying API (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Copyright Policy, and you confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy.

Who can use ShelfClub (minimum age)

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use the Service. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to terms like these on your own, you must be that age, or have a parent or guardian who has read and accepted these Terms for you. We ask for a date of birth before an account is created, and once for accounts made before we asked. If you are under 13 you may not use ShelfClub, and an account found to belong to someone under 13 is closed and its data deleted.

Your account

  • You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for any activity that happens under your account.
  • You agree to provide accurate information when you sign up and to keep it current.
  • One person, one account. You may not impersonate another person or transfer your account to someone else without our permission.

Your content

You retain ownership of the reviews, ratings, quotes, comments, shelves, photos, and other content you submit to ShelfClub ("User Content"). By submitting User Content you grant ShelfClub a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, display, and adapt that content as needed to operate and improve the Service, including showing it to other users you've chosen to share it with.

You're responsible for the User Content you post and confirm that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights or violate any law.

Copyright and repeat infringers

Only post what you have the right to post: your own words and images, or material you have permission to use. Quote other people's work only as far as the law allows. If someone tells us, with a valid notice, that content you posted infringes their copyright, we remove it or turn off access to it, including any stored image, and record the removal against your account. Our Copyright Policy explains how to send a notice, and how to answer one with a counter-notice if your content was removed by mistake.

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of people who infringe repeatedly. We may also close an account after a single serious infringement.

Acceptable use and zero tolerance for objectionable content

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior on ShelfClub. By using the Service you agree not to:

  • Post or share content that's illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, sexually exploitative of minors, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Bully, harass, threaten, impersonate, or abuse other users.
  • Scrape or download the Service's data in bulk except through the public API we provide.
  • Interfere with the Service's security, reverse-engineer it, or attempt to access accounts you don't own.
  • Use the Service to send spam, run automated promotion, or operate a competing service.

You can report objectionable content from the "…" menu on any post, review, comment, message, profile or club, and you can block abusive users from their profile. Reports are reviewed and, where a violation is confirmed, the offending content is removed and the responsible user is ejected, typically within 24 hours. We may remove content, ban users, or suspend accounts that violate these rules at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

ShelfClub is free

ShelfClub is free: every feature, for everyone. We no longer sell ShelfClub+, and you don't need it for anything.

If you bought a ShelfClub+ subscription before it was withdrawn, it may keep renewing and charging you through the store you bought it from until you cancel:

  • How to cancel. Cancel in the store you bought from, at least a day before the renewal date so the renewal is not charged:
  • Deleting your account or the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in the store first, or the store keeps charging you.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we cannot refund a store purchase ourselves.

Book information, tags and content warnings

ShelfClub displays book information (titles, authors, cover images, descriptions, categories) from public catalogs including Open Library, Google Books and Apple, and bestseller lists from The New York Times. We don't claim ownership of it and provide it as a convenience to help you find and track books.

When you add a book that is not in our catalog yet, by typing its details or in an import, it becomes part of the shared catalog: anyone can see its page, nothing on it says who added it, and it stays in the catalog after you delete your account.

Some moods, tags and content warnings are produced by an AI model that reads published information about the book; others come from readers. One line on a book's page says that its tags and content warnings come from published information about the book and from readers. They can be wrong or missing. A book with no content warning shown has not necessarily been checked, so please do not rely on them as complete.

Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, ShelfClub disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific book or feature will be available at any given time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, ShelfClub and its affiliates won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or data, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose or (b) USD $50.

Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms (including the rules on objectionable content and on copyright above) or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will do so.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Washington, excluding conflicts-of-law rules. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in the United States, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country require otherwise.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notice or email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
